Weatherization Jobs and Training

There are many local and state programs that are supporting investment in home energy efficiency upgrades. The federal Low-Income Weatherization Assistance Program workers are hired by the local agencies that manage the program or by their private contractors. Weatherization program worker training is generally subsidized or free for those workers. Click here to find your local Weatherization agency.

Many other training resources are becoming available. The premiere certification and training organization is the Building Performance Institute. See its work at bpi.org. In many areas, union training facilities are developing residential weatherization curriculum – see, for example, the Laborers’ International offerings for members. Check with your state and county workforce development offices for the other new "green jobs" projects funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act that may be training and hiring.
